Active was appointed principal contractor to undertake the complete demolition of the South Wing at Bedford Hospital. The project involved the removal and demolition of Crown House and associated works including the isolation, disconnection and making safe of live services, removal of plant, equipment and fixtures, breaking out of concrete ramps and handrails, and the preparation and making good to existing tarmac hard stand.
The project was undertaken for Bedfordshire NHS Trust and, as part of the works, Active had to protect and retain external boundaries, street furniture and ensure the safety of the general public within the hospital grounds. As principal contractor Active established the site, equipped to undertake the works conforming to CDM 2007 regulations and Health and Safety at Work Act.
