The property lies in Belgravia to the south of Hyde Park Corner at the junction with Halkin Street and with a rear elevation to Headfort Place. The building was originally designed by Thomas Cundy III in 1867-9. In the latter part of the 1800s the property was the residence of Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman (1836-1908), a former prime minister.
The property at Grosvenor place was due for a complete refurbishment and restoration by our client, as part of the client’s requirements prior to any refurbishment works taking place on site a full pre-refurbishment intrusive asbestos survey was undertaken. The asbestos survey highlighted significant asbestos findings within certain areas of the building, including asbestos thermal insulation to basement vault areas and also sprayed asbestos coating fire protection to steel RSJ’s within the building.
Due to both the complexities of the project and location the client needed to procure an experienced asbestos removal contractor to undertake the required remedial works. Active’s procurement team and project managers worked with the client at tender stage in order to provide advice and develop a remediation strategy that ensured the high risk asbestos materials were dealt with in strict accordance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. Active’s experienced site team used the latest plant/ equipment and controlled wet injection techniques in order to safely remove the asbestos materials.
The works took approximately 8 weeks to complete, and in order to minimise impacts on the clients intended refurbishment programme the site remained operational during both weekday and weekend periods.
Active’s experienced project managers were able to deliver the project within the forecast programme period, which then enabled the building to be handed back to the client for refurbishment works to commence.
